Radio Heart was a studio project put together by the Scottish brothers Hugh and David Nicholson, both formerly of the band Blue. Active between 1986 and 1988, it was built as a vehicle for a batch of pop songs Hugh Nicholson had written, with guest vocalists brought in rather than a settled line-up.

Gary Numan's involvement came at a low point for his own label. With Numa Records struggling at the end of 1986, he accepted the Nicholsons' offer to sing lead on the title song — a bright, straightforward pop record a long way from the music he was making under his own name at the time.

The gamble paid off. "Radio Heart" (GFM, GFMR 109) was released on 16th March 1987 and reached No 35 in the UK, Numan's biggest hit single for several years. Two further singles credited to Radio Heart featuring Gary Numan followed the same year, "London Times" and "All Across The Nation".

The self-titled album arrived on NBR in June 1987 (NBRL 1). It entered the chart on 13th June and peaked at No 48 during a two-week run. Numan sings on three tracks; Elton John plays keyboards on two others, and the remaining vocals are shared among other guests.

The collaboration wound down in 1988, though the Nicholson connection resurfaced later — the 1999 Nicholson/Numan release, and the Radio Heart featuring Gary Numan & Dadadang recordings issued from 2018 onwards. In August 2026 Edsel collected the material on a double deluxe CD (EDSL0294), gathering the album, the single mixes and extended versions together with a new booklet.
